They range from Lombard white wines, renowned for their crisp and fresh character, to classic table reds, ideal to accompany the delicacies of local cuisine. The history and the best Lombard bottles

The wide range of wines from Lombardy is the result of a tradition and a path that has its roots in the oldest history. The cultivation of vines in these lands dates back to the Neolithic and the first written evidence of this activity dates back to the times of the Roman Empire. The activity of monasteries in the Middle Ages and the influence of cultivation techniques imported later from France, will contribute to further improve the local wine production. As already said, we talk about a rather large and varied regional area, and it is therefore natural that the various terroirs have given rise to labels also very different from each other. Among the areas of greatest interest today we certainly highlight the Valtellina, nestled between the Alps where the renowned DOC of the same name, Franciacorta, famous for its whites, and Oltrepò Pavese, a very particular corner of territory. It is impossible to ignore the Garda area, a very interesting wine making context. The excellent Garda wines, obtained from the cultivation of Groppello and Marzemino, are produced right on the lakeside. The local enology therefore embraces a wide range of types and qualities of bottles for all tastes, also thanks to the numerous wineries, for a proposal really suitable for all palates. These include Contadi Castaldi, Aldo Rainoldi, and the cantina Nino Negri, famous for the production of Valtellina Superiore DOCG, one of the most appreciated labels.

Types and combinations on the table

The best way to taste Lombard wine is to combine the labels to the typical dishes of the local tradition, so as to enjoy a full meal of all the most unmistakable flavors of this land. White wine lovers will certainly appreciate their glass in the company of different fish dishes of the region, such as pike in sauce, fried fish, but also the delicious Missoltini, typical of the territory of Como. If you prefer the red wines from Lombardy, we recommend the combination on the table with lamb, game and roast meat. Bottles such as Pinot Noir, red Franciacorta and Valtellina Classico can also accompany the various local cheeses.
