Cerasuolo of Abruzzo
The
Montepulciano of Abruzzo wine is produced both in the red and rosé versions. The Cerasuolo of Abruzzo is made of Montepulciano vine as basis. The cultivation area is extended in the Chieti, Aquila, Pescara and Teramo cities. The Cerasuolo of Abruzzo vines have to be cultivated on hills with a particular sun exposition. They can be cultivated up to 600 meters above the sea level if there is a south exposition. This vine is very different and it is cultivated since the Etruscans. Characteristics of Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo DOC
The Cerasuolo has to be made of 85% of Montepulciano grapes and a 15% of other black not aromatic grapes, which are previously authorized and produced in Abruzzo. The Montepulciano vine is the most characteristic red vine in Abruzzo and it is not likely that it could be an imported Sangiovese. The superior Cerasuolo of Abruzzo have to have at least a proof of 12% and a production per hectare inferior. It has a characteristic pink color with intense and bright cherry nuances. The smell is mostly floral with geranium and carnation smells and fruity aromas of raspberry, pomegranate and cherry on a delicate spicy end. Due to its warm and soft components, a good mineral taste and the structure, it seems to be in front of a
red wine. It is balanced and it has also a good persistence.
