Monica di Sardegna DOC “Antigua” from Cantina Santadi is made from Monica grapes with a small percentage of Carignano, grown in the lower Sulcis on clayey, sandy and calcareous soils. The vineyards are raised on saplings and espaliers, in a warm and breezy climate typical of the Mediterranean. The harvest takes place in the second half of September with manual harvesting of the grapes: this is followed by fermentation for approximately 15 days in contact with the skins with frequent reassemblies, while the aging continues in concrete tanks where the wine also completes the malolactic fermentation, maintaining freshness and aromatic balance.
Characteristics of this Sardinian wine
In the glass it has a ruby red color with purple reflections. Notes of blackberry, blueberry and small red fruits emerge on the nose, accompanied by floral, balsamic nuances and light Mediterranean spices. In the mouth it is soft, warm and harmonious, with delicate tannins, good freshness and a pleasant final persistence with hints of licorice and Mediterranean scrub.
