This particular Chardonnay, produced by Alois Lageder, represents the success of its winery since more than ten years and made the quality of oenological production of the entire region increase. In fact, in the 80s, it was the first white wine of Trentino Alto Adige that was introduced in the international market. The vineyards cultivated around Magrè reacts differently to the climatic conditions of the different micro-zones. Our task is to analyse them, in order to join their grapes and their wine in the correct way to obtain each year a masterpiece. Single variety wine making with 100% Chardonnay grapes, cultivated with biological, dynamic method certified Demeter. The grapes come from the best terrains of the Löwengang estate in Magrè. The lands are elevated between 230-330 meters on the sea level and are mainly composed by sand, gravel and limestone, elements that influence the minerality of this wine. The age of the plants swings from 20 to 70 years. The harvest is planned at the beginning of September, followed by a first, spontaneous fermentation, managed in barriques. After that, the wine rests on its yeasts in the same containers for at least 11 months. This process helps to manage the strong minerality of this product, by making its structure round and rich of deep perfumes.
Features of Chardonnay Löwengang
Its organoleptic aspect shows a shiny, clear gold yellow, that recalls the aging in wooden barrels. Apparently, the scent is a bit limited, but then, with a little oxygenation, it opens its great bouquet full of fruit, pear, apricot and peach in particular, flowers. Its freshness is enriched by toasted hints. The taste is strong but harmonious, structured, with mineral, fruity and salty elements that recall its motherland. The evolution in the bottle can last also 15 years.
