The name of this wine takes us in the 17th Century, when the family of baron Gaun was the owner of the Löwengang estate. In 1934, when “Alois Lageder III” realized the potential of this land rich of limestone for the cultivation of Chardonnay, he decided to buy the estate. In the last 150 years these lands were cultivated with Chardonnay and other international varieties, like Cabernet, Carmenère and Riesling. Single variety wine making with 100% Chardonnay grapes, cultivated as the tradition wants with controlled biological and biodynamic methods, certified Demeter. The grapes come from the alluvial area of Magrè, located at 230-250 meters on the sea level. The soils are full of sands, gravel and limestone that give minerality to the wine. The vineyards are between 7 and 27 years old. The harvest is in the first two weeks of September, then the spontaneous fermentation follows. The aging on fine sedimentation is developed in wooden barrels and in steel, for a period that lasts at least 9 months.
