This refined wine of the Rainoldi winery took its name from the “Crespino” (barberry) which is a berry of the dog hip. When this berry achieves its wonderful colors, that is the perfect moment for the Nebbiolo grape harvest whose vines are located on living rocks in the sub-area of the Valtellina Superiore. The harvest is late between the end of October and the first week of November. By following the tradition the harvest is manual. The fermentation and maturation take place in new French oak barrels for at least 15 months. It follows the aging period for minimum 12 months in bottles kept in fresh and dark cellars.
Characteristics of the wine Crespino
This red wine Crespino di Valtellina Superiore DOCG shares with the other Valtellina Superiore wines the aging property. The wines are structured, powerful and refined at the same time. The Crespino has an intense ruby red color with a fruity, wide and balsamic perfume with wet ground hints. The taste is dense and persistent. The tannins are structured but well harmonized.
Suggested pairings with this red wine from Valtellina
The Crespino is perfect with structured courses. It is very good with red meats, game and aged cheeses. It has to be served in a Grand Ballon wine glasses to permit the oxygenation of the scented bouquet. It has to be served between the 16-18°C after a short settling time.
