Schiava is a native vine variety of Trentino Alto Adige that dominated the cultivations till the end of the 70s. In the past people considered the region as a special territory for the production of red wines. As its grapes prefer the shades to the sun, the cultivation method used is “Pergola”. The wine that derives is characterized by freshness and tannin softness, that make it perfect with light dishes. For the production of its wine, Lageder uses 100% grey Schiava grapes, coming from selected vineyards in Caldaro and Cortaccia. Placed at 300-400 meters of elevation, the lands are composed by limestone and gravel. The vines are between 32-72 years old. The harvest is in the middle of September, followed immediately by fermentation and maceration in steel. After the malolactic fermentation, the aging in concentrate baths for six months complete the evolution of the wine.
