This red wine from the Friulian winery Tunella is made from Pinot Noir grapes grown in the hills of Eastern Friuli: the vineyards benefit from soils rich in marl and sandstone known as ‘ponche’. The grapes are harvested by hand during the harvest in the first week of September: this is followed by destemming and crushing, and the resulting must is left to macerate and ferment with the skins; frequent pumping over is carried out to maximise the transfer of colour and tannins from the skins to the must. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, malolactic fermentation takes place, followed by ageing.
Characteristics of this wine from the Tunella winery
It has an intense ruby red colour. The aroma is pronounced, delicate and with hints of raspberry and wild berries. On the palate, it is dry and velvety.
Recommended pairings for this Friulian red wine
Excellent with white meats, oily fish such as eels, and dishes served with sauces. Serve at a temperature of 16–18°C.
