This white wine from the Friulian winery Tunella is made exclusively from Pinot Grigio grapes grown in the hills of Eastern Friuli: the soils are rich in marl and sandstone known as ‘ponche’. The harvest takes place in the first week of September and the grapes are picked by hand at the optimum stage of ripeness. This is followed by soft pressing, and the must obtained is cold-settled before being mixed with yeasts to initiate fermentation, which takes place slowly at a controlled temperature of 16°C for around 40 days. The ageing process involves a series of frequent bâtonnages to produce a complex, structured and fragrant wine.
Characteristics of this Pinot Grigio from Friuli-Venezia Giulia
It has a straw-yellow colour that tends to deepen with ageing. The nose is fruity and fragrant, with hints of bread crust, acacia flowers and tropical fruit. The nose is echoed on the palate, which is elegant, with delicate notes of yeast.
Recommended pairings with this wine from the Tunella winery
Excellent with starters, aperitifs featuring cold cuts, fish dishes and white meats. Serve at a temperature of 8–10°C.
