Tenuta Antonini's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC “Corium” is a red wine that represents one of the winery's most important and structured expressions, made from pure Montepulciano grapes, a symbolic grape of Abruzzo and the absolute protagonist of the Teramo Hills. The name “Corium”, which recalls the idea of “skin” and “matter”, underlines the deep, intense and material character of this wine. Production takes place in a particularly suitable area, between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso massif, where the strong temperature variations favor a complete ripening of the grapes and a rich aromatic concentration. After manual harvesting and careful selection of the bunches, winemaking involves a rather prolonged maceration on the skins in temperature-controlled steel, with the aim of extracting color, structure, and aromatic complexity. The wine then ages in wood, generally in French oak barriques and tonneaux, followed by a period of rest in the bottle that completes its balance and finesse.
Characteristics of this Montepulciano Corium wine
On organoleptic examination it appears with an intense ruby red colour, tending towards purplish in the younger stages. On the nose it is broad and complex, with hints of ripe red and black fruits such as cherry, blackberry and plum, accompanied by spicy notes, hints of cocoa, tobacco and light balsamic nuances. In the mouth it is full, structured and enveloping, with tannins present but well smoothed by the refinement in wood; the freshness supports the structure making the sip balanced and dynamic. The finish is long, persistent and characterized by fruity and spicy returns.
Recommended pairings with this red wine from Tenuta Antonini
