The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane P.121 DOCG from the Cantina Tenuta Antonini represents one of the most prestigious labels of the Abruzzo winery located in Ancarano, in the Colline Teramane area. This wine comes exclusively from Montepulciano grapes from old vineyards raised in guyot, grown on clay and limestone soils located approximately 300 meters above sea level. The name P.121 recalls a historic family map found in the home of Alessio Antonini's grandfather, a symbol of the strong connection between wine and local tradition. Production follows a careful and artisanal process. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand towards the end of October and subjected to rigorous selection. After soft pressing and destemming, fermentation takes place in steel at a controlled temperature, thus preserving the aromatic integrity of the fruit. The wine then undergoes a long aging process in medium-high roast French oak tonneaux for 18 months, followed by a further period of rest in the bottle which contributes to increasing its complexity and elegance.
Characteristics of this Abruzzese wine
It has an intense ruby red color, crossed by light purplish shades that tend towards garnet with aging. The bouquet is wide and deep, characterized by notes of ripe red fruits, black cherry, blackberry and plum, accompanied by spicy hints of tobacco, coffee, black pepper and light balsamic nuances resulting from the passage in wood. On the palate it is dry, structured and harmonious, with velvety and well-integrated tannins that support a full and persistent sip. The long closure reveals hints of dark chocolate, sweet spices and dark fruit.
Recommended pairings with this red wine from Tenuta Antonini
It's ideal with roasts, braised meats, game, game, and grilled meats, but it also expresses itself very well with rich first courses like macaroni on the guitar with ragù or Abruzzo timbales. Also excellent with aged cheeses and long-ripening pecorino. The recommended service temperature is between 18 and 20 °C.
