Wine description
This Cannonau di Sardegna demonstrates the strong link between the Contini Winery and the historical and cultural roots of Sardinia: the Sartiglia is in fact one of the oldest equestrian events that takes place during the Carnival period in Oristano. The history of the Contini Family has been intertwined with viticulture since 1898, when the founder Salvatore Contini began to devote his soul and body to the production of Sardinian wines and their enhancement. The estates of the Contini family amount to about 100 hectares divided between Penisola del Sinis, Pendici del Monte Arci and Valle del Tirso. It is right near the latter that the Cannonau di Sardegna Sartiglia DOC is produced, with Cannonau grapes and other local red grapes grown on soils of volcanic origin. After the harvest, soft pressing takes place, fermentation in contact with the skins and finally rest for a year in casks, with subsequent aging in bottle for 6 months.
Characteristics of this wine from Cantina Contini
It has an intense ruby color, tending to garnet if left to age. The nose is rich and fruity with hints of ripe cherry, plum and blackberry. In the mouth it is a warm and full-bodied wine, with an excellent structure and a long persistence.
Recommended pairings tasting this Cannonau di Sardegna Doc
An excellent wine to accompany main courses of meat and game. Irresistible with Sardinian pecorino with myrtle. The optimal serving temperature is 16ºC in a glass not very wide.
