This wine from the Friulian winery Tunella is made exclusively from Picolit grapes grown in the hills of Eastern Friuli, where the soils are rich in marl and sandstone, known as ‘ponche’. The low yield per vine and the naturally loose structure of the bunches mean that the grape yield per hectare is low, at around 15 quintals per hectare. The harvest takes place in the last week of September: the late harvest into crates is followed by natural drying with botrytisation for around 60 days, in order to achieve optimal sugar concentrations. The grapes undergo soft pressing and the resulting must is left to ferment slowly, with ageing for 2 years. After a further period of rest and bottle ageing, the wine is ready for release.
Characteristics of this Picolit wine from Friuli-Venezia Giulia
It has a very bright golden colour. The aroma is reminiscent of honeycomb, wildflowers, ripe fruit and apricot jam. Sweet on the palate yet elegant, refined and velvety.
