In the area of Mariano del Friuli near Gorizia, on clayey soils on the surface and calcareous soils in depth, comes this red wine from the Friuli Vie di Romans Winery: for its production only pure merlot grapes from the Fratta vineyard are used. After manual harvesting of the grapes, destemming and crushing take place in the cellar. Then follows maceration for 28 days, followed by punching-down - stirring of the fermenting must - to extract aromas, tannins and colouring, and with the implementation of delestage - temporary separation of the must from the marc - to optimise the extraction of phenolic components. Once fermentation in steel with the use of selected yeasts has begun, malolactic fermentation takes place and finally the long ageing phase occurs: 18 months in barrique, 8 months in steel and finally 14 months in the bottle. This red wine from Friuli Venezia Giulia can boast an ageing capacity of 22 years.
Characteristics of this Friulian wine
It presents a garnet red colour with violet reflections. The nose is an explosion of cherries, plums, vanilla, floral notes of herbs and spicy notes of tobacco. On the palate it impresses with a soft tannic texture and a full body, the finish has an excellent persistence.
