Wine list | Valtellina Superiore |
This red wine produced by Fay winery comes from the vineyard “Cà Moréi”, extended for 2,5 hectares in the sub-zone of Valgella, located 550 meters above the sea level, in the district of Teglio. The dialectal name, that means “Casa Morelli” (Morelli house), identifies the property where Mansueto Morelli lived with his family at the beginning of the 20th Century. His daughter Emma married Pietro Fay in 1947. 100% Nebbiolo grapes cultivated with Guyot methods. The production zone is “Valgella”, “Cà Moréi” vineyard. The annual harvest produces 40 hl/hectare and starts in the second half of October. The wine making process begins with fermentation in steel for 2 weeks and maceration for 6 days. The malolactic fermentation is managed completely in barriques, followed by the aging period of 12 months.
Features of Valgella Valtellina Superiore
This wine has a light ruby red colour. Its perfume is rich of delicate hints of tobacco, cocoa and, at the end, of white rose. The taste is clean, refined, soft, with good freshness and tannins that evolve with the aging.
Recommended food pairings while tasting this wine produced by Fay winery
A traditional wine of Valtellina, excellent with second courses like red meat, cooked in different manners. It has to be served at 20°C in a high, wide wine glass, in order to help oxygenation.
