The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane Riserva “Le Casette” DOCG of the Cantina Tenuta Antonini is one of the most prestigious expressions of the Abruzzo winemaking tradition, born in the hilly area of Ancarano, in the province of Teramo. This wine is produced exclusively from Montepulciano grapes from old vineyards raised in guyot and grown on clay and limestone soils located approximately 300 meters above sea level. The low yields per hectare and the rigorous selection of grapes make it possible to obtain a wine of great concentration, elegance and evolutionary capacity. Harvesting is done manually between late October and early November, choosing only the best bunches. After soft destemming, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel with frequent reassemblies to promote the extraction of color and structure. The wine then undergoes a long aging in French oak barrels, followed by a further period of rest in the bottle that completes its balance and aromatic complexity. The term Riserva identifies a wine destined for a slow evolution and capable of expressing itself at its best even after several years of aging.
Characteristics of this Abruzzese wine
It has an intense and deep ruby red color, with garnet reflections that emerge with aging. On the nose it offers a complex and refined bouquet, dominated by hints of black cherry, blackberry and ripe plum, accompanied by elegant spicy notes of vanilla, cocoa, tobacco and black pepper. Light balsamic nuances and fine roasts also emerge from the long passage through wood. In the mouth it is full, warm and enveloping, supported by velvety and well-integrated tannins that give structure and balance. The finish is long and persistent, with returns of dark fruit, sweet spices and dark chocolate.
Recommended pairings with this red wine from Tenuta Antonini
This Montepulciano Riserva finds its ideal pairing with important dishes of traditional Italian cuisine. It pairs perfectly with braised meats, roasts, game, grilled red meats and rich, long-cooked preparations. It is also excellent with tasty first courses such as Abruzzo timbales, pasta with wild boar ragù and traditional lasagna. Finally, excellent with aged cheeses and long-ripening pecorino cheese. The recommended service temperature is between 18 and 20 °C.
