The Barbera d’Alba Classico of the Massucco winery is produced in Castagnito di Roero in the Northern side of the Cuneo province. The vines exposition which are located at 350 meters above the sea level is South-west so they are constantly under the sun light. The soil is mostly clay with evident marl and sandy layers which is a clear sign of the water that once slid in this place. The vines are cultivated in espalier and the pruning process is the French Guyot ideal for 40 years aged vines. The average annual profit is 80 quintals. Concerning the cultivation method it takes place the destemming to guarantee a better quality in the picking. There is a pressing moment followed by the destemming of the bunches and lately it takes place a controlled fermentation in big oak barrels for 8 months.
Charactertistics of the red wine Barbera
It has an intense red color tending to a more garnet one with the aging. It has a winy and delicate scent. The taste is dry, full, rich and harmonic characterized by a completeness.
Suggested matches while tasting this red wine
It has to be served at 20-22°C and locally it is used as appetizer, match with medium aged cheeses. An original match is with the soup of crustaceous or flavored with tasty sauces. It has to be served in wide wine glasses also without settling time.
