The white DOC Friulano wine of the prestigious Meroi winery founded in 1920 in produced in the east Friuli hills in the Buttrio hamlet in the Udine province. The grapes used are 100% Friulano and the denomination is Meroi Friulano wine with the DOC certification. The cultivation is extended for 1 hectare with an east-south, and south exposition located at 100 meters above the sea level. The soil is marl and the cultivation is made with the French Guyot method and the harvest takes place in the first day of September. The fermentation of this wine takes place in barrels for 25 days and there are added some yeasts. There is no malolactic fermentation and the refinement lasts 10 months. The last 2 years the wine stays in bottle before being commercialized. Before the bottling there is a light clarification with filtering.
Characteristics of this Friulano wine from Meroi winery
It has a decided straw yellow color with gold reflections. The smell is intense and complex with a wide floral bouquet with broom and dandelion aromas with ripen Willian pear and bitter almond hints with a thyme and lemon ending. The taste is soft, mineral and a citron freshness.
Suggested pairings while tasting this white wine
It is perfect with fish, scallops with butter and cognac, white ragu tagliatelle, roasted rabbit and baked potatoes. It must be served at 12-14°C in high and tapered wine glasses.
