Agostino Pavia
The Agostino Pavia Winery is a historic winemaking facility in the Monferrato area of Asti, located in Agliano Terme, in the heart of Barbera Piedmont. It was born as a family business and developed between the end of the twentieth century and the beginning of the ’80s, when the Pavia family began to structure their work in the vineyard and cellar in a more modern way, decisively focusing on the valorization of Barbera d'Asti as a grape variety that identified the area. The history of the winery is strongly linked to the territory: the vineyards are owned and located in the hills of Agliano Terme, a particularly suitable area thanks to calcareous-clayey soils and a microclimate that allows the grapes to fully ripen, while maintaining natural freshness and acidity. One of the company's most important features is the centrality of Barbera, interpreted in multiple versions depending on the vineyards and refinements. The production philosophy is based on the idea that the soil guides the wine: each parcel expresses different characteristics that are enhanced through separate winemaking and different types of aging, from steel to large wood to barrique. From an oenological point of view, the winery works with long macerations and a calibrated use of wood, with the aim of obtaining structured yet balanced wines, capable of expressing the character of Monferrato without excessive extraction. The different Barbera d'Asti labels represent different interpretations of the same grape variety, from the most immediate and fruity versions to the most complex and long-lasting reserves.
