LA SPINETTA

La Spinetta is one of the most important and recognizable wineries in modern Piedmont, with a relatively recent history but rapid growth that has brought it among the big names of Barolo and Barbaresco. The company was founded in 1977 in Castagnole delle Lanze, between the Langhe and Monferrato, on the initiative of Giuseppe and Lidia Rivetti, initially dedicated to the production of Moscato d'Asti. In just a few years, the company radically changed direction: from the ’80s it began to focus on red wines, first with Barbera and then with Nebbiolo, until the qualitative explosion of the ’90s with the first single-vineyard Barbaresco wines such as Gallina, followed by Starderi and Valeirano, which today become some of the winery's most iconic labels. Growth has been accompanied by major territorial expansion. Today, La Spinetta owns vineyards in Piedmont, between the Langhe and Monferrato regions, but also in Tuscany, where it developed the Casanova della Spinetta project, dedicated primarily to Sangiovese and local grape varieties. One of the winery's most recognizable features is its highly precise production style, geared toward enhancing the vineyard: low yields, great attention to grape quality, and carefully curated winemaking to clearly express the differences between individual parcels. Wines are often made from old vines, which contributes to aromatic concentration and depth. Stylistically, La Spinetta is often described as a winery balancing tradition and modernity: the wines are powerful, rich, and highly expressive on the fruit, with a recognizable style that has made Barbaresco cru especially famous. This approach has divided enthusiasts over time between those who appreciate their intensity and those who prefer more classical interpretations of Nebbiolo, but it remains one of the most solid signatures of contemporary Langhe. Today, La Spinetta is led by the Rivetti family and represents a company of great size and prestige, with a large production and a strong international identity, while maintaining a close bond with the Piedmont region where it all began.
