BASILISCO

Few other wineries in Italy can be identify with a territory, with its history and its values: Feudi di San Gregorio identifies itself with Irpinia, near Avellino. The winery was founded in 1986 and today it can be assumed as the symbol of the enological renaissance of southern Italy as well as drinking culture, aimed at rediscovering the essence and identity of Mediterranean flavors. Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo and Taurasi are today among the most important Italian denominations, thanks to a work begun over twenty years ago, and which still continues in the most total safeguarding of tradition and in the search for all the potential of territory. Let's start with the vineyards, which have always coexisted and alternated with orchards, olive trees and woods in Irpinia. Currently, between the owned and rented vineyards, the winery has over three hundred hectares of vineyards. With the central nucleus located in the Sorbo Serpico area - where the company headquarters is also located - and with the other rows scattered between the municipalities of Tufo, Taurasi and Santa Paolina, the vineyards of the Feudi di San Gregorio are between 350 and 700 meters above sea level. The soils are of volcanic matrix and only here, plants with a unique genetic makeup grow, which are treated through agronomic management that is extremely respectful of all environmental balances. In the cellar, the spaces were completely renovated in 2004, after a research process aimed at combining traditions with modern technologies. Here then opens the doors of the wine-making rooms - in which a space has been dedicated to the production of “Dubl” sparkling wines; in a mainly underground structure, each space is harmoniously integrated with the territory, for an extremely balanced environmental impact. These are the ingredients that make up the recipe from which the labels of the Feudi di San Gregorio come to life: wines that represent the recovery and relaunch of the most authentic oenological Irpinia, and that enhance the uniqueness of a local heritage when it concerns to vines and wine.
