The name of this white wine of Cantina Donnafugata "Lighea" comes from the nickname, in local dialect, which describes a woman with disordered Sun-colored hair, so Giuseppe Tomasi from Lampedusa describes the bewitching siren central character of his story that gave rise to a complex and innovative wine and an equally original label. The white wine is produced with 100% Zibibbo grapes. The grapes (Muscat of Alexandria) cultivated in Pantelleria are positively influenced by the winds rich in salt. They are bred with the method of the very low Pantesco sapling (characteristic at local level), the pruning is also typical, very short. The planting density is at least 2,500 vines per hectare while the production reaches about 50 quintals per hectare. The soil on which the vines rise is volcanic and rich in minerals. The grapes are harvested at the end of August, in the cooler districts of Pantelleria from the youngest vineyards. After the soft pressing of the grapes, the must is fermented at a controlled temperature. The wine is put on the market after at least two months of aging in bottle.
Features of the Zibibbo Terre di Sicilia "Lighea"
From the vinification process comes a wine with the olfactory impact that develops with considerable finesse on complex notes ranging from fruity apple and citrus to floral broom, all set on a mineral background. On the palate the taste is full, savory and soft. Excellent balance between olfactory notes and flavors.
Serving suggestions by tasting this white wine from Cantina Donnafugata
It is indicated with all blue fish, with baked pasta and white, especially with fried fish. Local recipes of the culinary tradition combine it with sardines with beccafico and catfish with ravioli and asparagus seasoned with marjoram. It should be served fresh, at a maximum temperature of 11ºC, in medium-sized tulip glasses. It should be uncorked at the moment and does not require decantation.
