One of the first products of Castello Monaci: it is a single variety based on one of the most important of this area: Negroamaro. A controversy is open on the meaning of the name of the vine: some believe that it is the repetition of the word black in two languages: “niger” in Latin and “mavros” in Greek; others say that bitterness indicates that herbaceous and often slightly rough sense of the wine aftertaste. Maru in the Salento dialect means "severe", "dark" due to a certain austerity that the vine itself tends to express. The grape variety used for its vinification is 100% pure Negroamaro from the DOC area of Puglia Salento.
