PODERE 414
The province of Grosseto, in Tuscany, offers from the wine-growing point of view one of the most interesting DOCG at regional level, the one linked to the production of Morellino di Scansano, made with a minimum of 85% of Sangiovese, vine that in these areas has always been called "morellino". Among the various wineries that delight with the production of this type stands out, in Magliano in Tuscany, Podere 414, a young company founded in 1998 by Maurizio Castelli, renowned winemaker and known not only in Italy, but also abroad and in the New World. The winery takes its name from the number assigned to the plot of land that the Land Reform Authority had reserved, during the 60s, to the land now owned by the Castelli family. At the time it was particularly wild and rural areas, little predisposed to agriculture. Today, however, these lands, on which the young Simone, son of Maurizio, a graduate in Agriculture, stands daily, are thriving and perfectly cared for, characterized by vineyards that extend for about 22 hectares and the high density of plants. It is cultivated almost exclusively Sangiovese, with a small percentage of vineyard dedicated to Syrah, Alicante, Ciliegiolo and Colorino; in the fields, each operation is followed by the watchful eye of Simone, and always follow biological practices, verified by the Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification (ICEA). Every year Podere 414 produces about 90,000 bottles, of which almost all is destined to Morellino di Scansano DOCG. From some harvests, however, two other wines are produced, always from Sangiovese grapes: the IGT rose "Flower Power", hymn to the hippy counterculture of the 60s and 70s, and the "Badilante"red IGT that pays homage to the figures of the badilants, those who for over a century have provided for clearing the lands of the Maremma, making them finally accessible. Energetic and vital labels, with undoubted personality.
