COTTANERA
Born as an hazel wood in the early 1960s, Cottanera is one of the most important companies in the Etna area, thanks to the work of the grandfather of the current owners, Francesco Cambria. The Company is situated at an altitude of about seven hundred meters above sea level, in the Catania municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, in a beautiful area on the northern side of the volcano, characterized by a territorial context particularly suited to agriculture: an ideal condition for conversion to vineyard. Started in the early 70s, and continued decisively in the 90s, in that period all the plots have seen a progressive modernization, with the entry of varieties including international ones; it is in that period too that the company park has reached one hundred hectares, of which about 65 are currently planted with vineyards. Among the rows, the autochthonous carricante, nerello mascalese and inzolia grapes grow alongside syrah, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot grapes. Vines grown in full respect of nature, environment and ecosystem, producing valuable, pure, rich and concentrated fruits in all their organoleptic nuances. Bunches that in the cellar are interpreted in the sign of the most ancient local traditions, enhancing all that the territory and the season have created. Those that are produced today by the Castiglione di Sicilia winery are wines with a strong modern character, at the same time as fascinating as elegant in revealing their unmistakable Sicilian soul. Labels that respond to the names of "Barbazzale", "Grammonte", "Sole di Sesta", "L’Ardenza", "Nume" and "Fatagione", Etna Rossi and Etna Bianchi and Metodo Classico Sparkling: excellent wines that tell the most beautiful stories of the great Sicilian volcano.
