VILLA SPARINA
Villa Sparina is a winery based in Monterotondo, Piedmont, in the heart of the famous area of Gavi, a land that is now also a DOCG and that since time immemorial is dedicated to the cultivation of vines. The Company was founded in the seventies by the Moccagatta family, who made wine a meeting point between creativity and tradition, always focusing on respect for the territory with the aim of enhancing the history and culture related to the grapes of the place. Villa Sparina covers an area of 100 hectares, of which 70 are cultivated with native vines, dedicated to the production of Gavi and Barbera wine. The vines are born on a calcareous clay soil that has always been suitable, and enjoy optimal exposure and a climate that benefits from the influences of the Ligurian Sea. One of the most significant wines of the Company is the crü Monterotondo, the highest qualitative result of the production of Villa Sparina, is a white wine made from pure Cortese grapes, since 1997 the company has been making separate and artisanal wine from grapes from a historic 1945 vineyard. Most of the vineyards are located in the hamlet of Monterotondo and flank Villa Sparina Resort, an estate where you can organize events and taste special thousandths of Villa Sparina wines. The hills cultivated in cortese give life to Gavi di Gavi and to a Brut quality sparkling wine. The other main vine cultivated by the company is the Barbera from which the Barbera del Monferrato DOC is made and a specific cru: Rivalta, 9 hectares located in Rivalta Bormida, among the hills of Acqui Terme, in Alto Monferrato. The wines of Villa Sparina and the Moccagatta family are characterized by a balance, frankness and care that surrounds the whole production process such as to give us harmonious wines and natural ambassadors of a beautiful territory.
