Il Poggione
Il Poggione estate was founded at the end of 1800. Lavinio Franceschi, landowner of Florence, following the stories of a shepherd who brought cattle in transhumance around Montalcino, decided to visit the area. Falling in love with the landscapes and the people who lived there, he decided to buy some land and make it a farm. The company was among the first to market Brunello di Montalcino since the early 1900s and one of the founding members of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino. After more than a century, the work of Lavinio Franceschi is still a point of reference for his heirs, Leopoldo and Livia who continue to strengthen the company with the same commitment and unchanged passion, combining the ancient and wise wine tradition, with the most innovative techniques. In 2004 the new winery was built in the heart of the company, where the winemaking tradition of the estate, is combined with the most advanced technologies. After the harvest, in fact, the wine ferments at a controlled temperature and in the presence of indigenous yeasts inside stainless steel tanks with the technique of "sunken hat", thanks to which it is possible to obtain very intense colors and aromas. At a depth of five meters under the wine cellar are kept the large French oak barrels used for the aging of the wines of the estate il Poggione.Per the choice of wood, the company operates directly in France to supply the best oak, which then ages outdoors for a period of at least 4 years, before being used for the assembly of the barrels. The cellar has ideal temperature and humidity in a natural way, being completely buried. This allows optimal aging and storage of the wine.
