Speri
The history of the Speri winery begins in the first half of 1800 with a few hectares adjacent to the home of the Speri family. Over the years, the company has invested in the acquisition of new properties in the most important areas of Valpolicella Classica, reaching 60 hectares today. Times change and sizes grow but it is always family management, which today proudly reaches the seventh generation. From the vineyard to the bottle, the Speri winery uses only the grapes owned and, directly follows all the stages of production, paying extreme attention to every single detail. The long experience of winegrowers and the continuous search for quality has led Speri to a viticulture particularly attentive to tradition and the environment. The breeding system with "open inclined pergoletta" expresses the best native varieties and promotes optimal exposure to the sun, especially in hilly areas. To reduce yields in the vineyard we practice grassing and do not use fertilizations. In addition we regularly carry out operations of grubbing, pruning and thinning. The vine is treated with products compatible with the environment and, thanks to the use of modern equipment, the amount of phytosanitary dispensed is very low. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected by expert hands. The most modern technology, the efficiency of wine making machines and the highest quality of materials are nothing without the mastery of those who use them. The properties of the company are all located in Valpolicella Classica (historical area) in the most suitable areas, at an altitude ranging from 150 to 350 meters with considerable variety of soils and microclimate. In order to better express these micro-zones, we vinifie separately the grapes coming from the most important vineyards, creating prestigious Cru wines that take their name from their vineyard of origin. The hill vineyards are cultivated on terraces consisting of dry stone walls also called "marogne": they, in addition to being a valuable tool to improve the cultivation in the hills, also have a high historical value. For this reason, with their protection, we can say that we have made our small contribution to the enhancement of the territory. The Speri winery vinifies only the autochthonous grapes of Valpolicella. Together with the three traditional grapes Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, are also used small percentages of other minor but historical varieties such as Oseleta, Rossanella, Pelara, Cabrosina.
